BRANDON, Miss. (June 17, 2025) — Authorities in Brandon are investigating a tragic shooting that occurred Monday evening at a local McDonald’s, leaving one person dead and the suspected gunman hospitalized with a self-inflicted injury.
Brandon Police Chief Joseph French confirmed officers responded to reports of a shooting at the McDonald’s on Stribling Lane just before 7:00 p.m. on June 16.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a deceased victim inside the restaurant, believed to have died from a gunshot wound. The alleged shooter, whose identity has not yet been released, was also found at the scene with what police say appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The suspect was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where they remain under medical care. The condition of the suspect has not been disclosed.
Chief French emphasized that the incident appears to be isolated, and there is currently no ongoing threat to the public. Investigators are working to determine the motive behind the shooting, and whether there was any relationship between the victim and the suspect.
“The investigation remains active, and further details will be released as they become available,” French said.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
